Greetings Message from the Founding Honorary Patron Dr. Rosanna Wong, DBE, JP on the occasion of the 30th Anniversary of the Children’s Thalassaemia Foundation
For the past 30 years, one of my greatest honours and privileges has been my association with the Children’s Thalassaemia Foundation.
Thalassaemia is what I call the ‘quiet disease’. Not much covered in the press, this is an inherited blood disorder caused by a malfunctioning of red blood cells in its ability to properly carry oxygen through the body. As a life-long disease, for the afflicted, painful blood transfusions are the critical link to survival and having a normal life.
Working equally quietly, but with so much strength, commitment and an unwavering passion, the Children’s Thalassaemia Foundation has been tireless in their efforts to care for those who suffer from this illness. The Foundation provides much needed support and encouragement to families, while also educating the wider community about this condition. More importantly, the Foundation helps raise funds for medical research and improvements in technology to make lives better.
All this makes the Foundation not only one of the most hardworking organisations I know, but also one with the biggest hearts for service. So, as we celebrate 30 years, let us remember with deep gratitude all those who work with, and for, the Foundation, especially the front-line staff. To them I can only humbly say, Thank you and Congratulations! You will always have my best wishes and prayers.
