Our Work in Patient Support

An important goal of the Children’s Thalassaemia Foundation is to provide all rounded support to patients to promote their well-being not only medically but also socially and psychologically. To this end, provision of comprehensive patient support is always on the mind of the Foundation.

Medically, the Foundation funds infusion pumps, syringes and needed for under the skin injection of iron removal medication. Through the support of donors, we provide financial support for patients to undergo haploidentical haemopoietic stem cell transplantation as disease cure. After transplantation, the use of medications to combat complications that may arise is covered. Recently, we fund a newly approved red cell maturation promoting agent in selected patients who develop adverse reactions to blood transfusion and hence cannot be transfused.

Graduating into adulthood, thalassaemia major patients need to be equipped with suitable skills to make a living. Over the years, the Foundation actively funds vocational training programs for patients to accrue job related skills. For the more aspiring patients who wish to obtain university qualifications and credentials, the Foundation shows encouragement by supporting their tuitions fees as deemed appropriate for their future career advancement.

Last but not the least, educational talks and seminars by enthusiastic local and overseas speakers are regularly organized for patients. We believe that to build up the knowledge base of patient is an effective way for them to help themselves.

The Children’s Thalassaemia Foundation hope that all thalassaemia major patients can enjoy a fruitful and healthy life as far as possibly can.
